AFA
Algae—from the smallest single-celled microalgae to the largest seaweeds—have been described as the basis of the entire food chain, the foundational nutrient source for creating and renewing life on our planet. Dubbed “Earth’s First Food,” Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (most commonly abbreviated AFA) is a species of cyanobacteria that are among the most ancient of all living organisms. For at least 3.5 billion years cyanobacteria have provided oxygen to the atmosphere and nutrients to the myriad varieties of life forms that inhabit Earth’s freshwater sources.
Klamath Lake is one of nature’s greatest depositories of AFA. Nestled in the snow-capped Cascade Mountains, the lake is anchored in deep volcanic soil and fed by a network of pristine mountain streams and springs. The organic microalgae naturally proliferating in this beautiful mountain lake bloom every year around the end of July and again in mid-fall. During these massive blooms, Aquae Care carefully harvests and expertly processes the bountiful AFA for health-enhancing products used worldwide.
